I came to Hull in 2008 to study Psychology at The University of Hull, havingbeen estranged from church for a year or two and was C of E at that time. I met a new friend and she was a sincere Catholic, who encouraged me back to church and we both went to Catholic and Cof E in order for me to find a local C of E church, but I never felt at home in any of them. As we became closer we discussed faith a lot and I attended Polish Catholic church with my friend for a year because it was the closest to where we live. We additionally visited other Catholic churches locally as well, seeking one where I felt comfortable and welcomed, but, as with so many churches I always felt an outsider and although feeling able to pray in any church, it is very different to feel "at home" and part of the congregation.
In the late summer of 2009 we visited Our Lady of St Lourdes and St. Peter Chanel and I immediately felt at home, I was very pleased to see so many different types of people, from all over the world coming together under one roof. Attending weekly Mass here for over a year whilst researching variances between C of E and Catholic, it was lovely to feel accepted despite being a C of E and unable to share communion. I made the decision to convert to Catholic when I was satisfied that it was right for me and took my first Catholic communion at Easter 2011. Since then I have been elected to the Parish Council and am very much part of our church. It is wonderful that so many people speak to each other and are friendly in church, an essence of Father John’s personality I am sure. Should anyone be considering joining us and wish to speak to me, or if any of the congregation wish to get in touch, my telephone number is 07968446037. Thank you everyone formaking me feel welcome.
